Vivi Bayliss in the house!

Posted in Uncategorized on November 14, 2012 by charlottegregory

ACE dance and music are very pleased to have work experience student Vivi Baylis with them all week. She’s been helping out in the office and taking part in our classes. Here she tells us how she’s found it so far…

Hi, my name’s Vivi Bayliss and I’m on work experience with ACE dance and music for the week. I applied because I’m a passionate dancer, interested in choreography and I wanted to increase my knowledge of how a professional company works. Although I haven’t had much experience of Afro-Caribbean dance, I really like the music and I’m keen to explore as many dance styles as possible. It’s exciting to see how dance is evolving. I’ve really enjoyed my placement so far. Everyone is so welcoming and helpful and I’m getting so much out of it. I’m taking part in office work and evening classes so I can see what a typical week is like at the company. I think that practical experiences, such as this, are vital if you want to pursue a career in the performing arts, as it’s important to have an edge in such a competitive industry. I’m really excited about joining the ACE Youth class on Thursday but also a little nervous. When researching the company before my placement, I realised the high profile they have as a young company. I can’t wait to see how they train but I just hope I can keep up!

ACE Youth perform as part of the Re:Generations 2012 Conference at The Place

Posted in Uncategorized on November 5, 2012 by charlottegregory

We are very proud of ACE Youth who were the talk of the town at the Place last Thursday 1st November for the Re:Generation 2012 Conference. Hosted at the Place, the conference was presented by the Association of Dance of the African Diaspora (ADAD) in partnership with IRIE! dance theatre, State of Emergency Productions and London Metropolitan University.

ADAD Director Jeanette Bain-Burnett gave us the following feedback:

“I just wanted to send a note to say thank you and well done to ACE Youth for their performances at Re:Generations 2012. They were the talk of the event – the pieces were performed with such passion and commitment. It was a real ‘Wow!’ moment for us. Please also pass on our thanks to Gail and Ian for their insightful contribution to the Youth Dance and Talent spotting panel. It was so good to have ACE Dance and Music involved in the event. Let’s stay connected. I hope we can work together again soon.”
