Building a future for ACE

ACE dance and music kicked off the New Year by being awarded an Arts Council Capital Grant! The new Link Dance Space will be one of the most exciting independent creative spaces in Digbeth for years.  Retaining the sense of space and light already in the current building – teaching learning and meeting areas will encourage cross working, and contribute to ensuring that managerial staff are just as engaged in the company creativity as dancers, musicians, lighting technicians and costume designers.  A new Green Room , changing areas and the reception areas will be fully accessible  – with a ground floor entrance that will appeal to passers-by.  At the end of the project, we will have new offices, 2 dance studios (rather than the current 1 studio) plus a lighting rig and raked theatre seating! Bring it on!

We will work with the industrial design of the original building to ensure an open, light and airy space – well suited to showcasing the very best in contemporary dance.  This development will increase access for audiences to the work of ACE dance and music and really add to the already vibrant creative cultural and media scene in Birmingham.’

We will name some of the spaces in the building and we hope that by involving our friends, participants and other stakeholders in this, we will create an even greater sense of ownership of the building.

We will relaunch our offer of support to emerging and independent artists later in the year, with reduced cost rehearsal space and advice surgeries, focusing on the existing ACE Graduates.
